Environmental biology Charles Darwin was the first to propose the mechanism of evolution. This is called natural selection. Evolution – Changes that occur in humans over time. For example: Polar bears were brown in but we had to go north and they changed to then turned white to other animals. Niche - specialized organism, role in its environment (specific function) Generalist - organism that can live anywhere and eat whatever it wants. Example - jackal, lynx, raccoon Expert - animal that is very meticulous about where it lives and what it eats. Example: polar bear, koala bear Endemic - A species found nowhere else in this region. Example: Animals of Australia Resource Zoning - Where two species live together and separate from trees. Examples: Polar Bears and Brown Bears Speciation - This is when a group within a species develops its own characteristics by separating from other members of its species. Allopatric - occurs in non-overlapping areas. Sympathetic- A species has different characteristics despite being similar. Edge Effects – here the two surfaces are different. Ecotone - Where two different environments gradually change. Pioneer - The first living person or organism. Primary Transport - Start with free space, then go home. Secondary Inheritance - You start with something new and it gets old with time. Introduced Species - When humans introduce a new species to a new area. Humans do good things in the body, but humans do bad things in nature! Desert Biome - Hot and dry desert with little or no rain throughout the year . Rainforest Biome - Tropical Rainforest, which is hot, humid and rainy all year round. Taiga Biome - heavy rainfall and cold climate with short seasons (largest land biome)
Deciduous Biome - biome dominated by deciduous trees, losing leaves seasonally, is also a dry valley forest Grass Biome - Wide open areas of grass biome. There was very little rain and 4,444 wildfires were burning. Savanna Biome - rugged grasslands scattered with shrubs and isolated trees. Tundra Biome - The coolest of the biomes. Frozen landscape, low temperature, heavy rain, no good food, short growing season. Wetlands – a barrier between soil and water. Such as swamps, swamps and swamps. Heavy rains prevent flooding
