Strain It is the ratio OF change in dimension to the origin- al dimension. * it has no unit and no dimension. i) longitudinal strain it is the ratio of change in length to original leng- th. Longitudinal strain = Al l ii) volume strain It isthe ratio of change in volume to the original volume. volume strain = -AV "-ve" denotes decrease in volume. iii) shearing strain it is the ratio of disp- lacement due to tanges.
