Types of stress i) Normal stress It is the restoring force acting per unit area no- rmal to the surface Normal stress = Force Area It is of two types a longitudinal stress or Tensile stress if a body undergoes incre ase in length due to deforming force,

then the stress Set up in that body is called longi- tudinal stress. b) compressive Stress if the body undergoes decrease in length when deforming force is applied then the stress set up in that body is called com pressive stress. ii) Balk stress If a body undergoes ch- ange in volume without change in it's shape when an external force is appl- ied then, the stress set up is called Balk stress. Force Bulk stress : Area * BUDK stress acts all poin nts of the surface. iii) Sheaning stress / Tangential stress it is the restoring for de per unit area when

tangential forces applied on the body.
