ROSHAAN AMEERDISCUSSIONPUBLIC SPEAKING Chapter 5 Highlights The eye has been called “the windows of the soul.” Pg 242 As a public speaker, I select this text because it is important while we arerepresenting our speeches in public. Eye contact plays an important rolebecause making eye contact with your audience establishes a connectionwith them. It also establishes our confidence as well. It doesn’t mean thatwhile delivering our speech we have eye contact in all our speech. Eyecontact should be 10 - 15 sec while presenting. When you look at a personin front of you in his eye you communicate you have a belief in your pointof view. While delivering a speech you are supposed to make eye contactwith everyone, not with a single person only. Eye contact is the first goodsign because popular public speakers have eye contact. Eye contact not in speeches also has a role when you meet a person in yoursurroundings while you are talking to her. You have eye contact with them.It shows the interest between your talk to that person. You have positiveeye contact to make your words more memorable. It makes you morehonest and self-aware. The people who are nervous and have lowconfidence while presenting their speeches in public or talking to someonehave poor eye contact. They need to do a lot of practice and always delivertheir speeches in a small group. They have to take part in volunteer events.
