Kinesiology Taping Certification/Notes: Kinesiology Taping for Horses: Part 1: What is Kinesiology Taping? Holistic way and safe to use. Elastic tape that has stretching recoil So many benefits Always cut the tape with rounded edges. This is very important!! Surface preparation is the most important to getting the tape to stick. How can Equi-Tape help your horse? Increase circulation and oxygen supply. Reduce fatigue. Facilitate healing. Shorten Recovery Time Reduce swelling and inflammation. Decrease muscle spasms. Increase blood and lymph flow. Decrease toxin build up in soft tissues. Supports joints, tendons, and ligaments. Promote healthy fascia. Improve range of motion. Assist or relax muscle function. Improve body awareness. Relieve pain and soreness. You will see immediate relief from pain and inflammation. Variations of Taping: Basic Intermediate Advanced Combination Kinesiology Taping Vs. Athletic Taping: Made with elastic material – stretches and recoils with movement. Influences nerves and receptors to provide feedback from the body to the brain. Contains no medications or topical ingredients. Gently lifts the skin allowing increased blood flow. Stretch and wave pattern is adhesive and is designed to interact with the unique qualities of the skin.
Non-restrictive and breathable; allows full range of motion when in use. Specifically designed for horses How Kinesiology Taping Works: The tape is applied with stretch. The adhesive adheres to the skin and or hair. This tape recoils and lifts the skin. This causes decompression of soft tissues. Increased space under the skin allowing it for more blood and lymph flow. Helps increase circulation, remove toxins and in healing. Thereby allowing your horse to train harder and recover quicker. Effects and benefits are achieved through stretch and recoil. o This is the magic. Stretching the Tape The amount of stretch used is important when placing tape on the body, because it is important for success of the application. Classification of stretch: o No stretch – no stretch o Mild – up to 10% o Moderate – up to 25% o Full – up to 50% Prepping the Horse, Using the tape properly Kinesiology taping is used in all disciplines, all training, and all conditioning. Do not tear the backing of the tape until you are ready to use it. Temperature sensitive- store tape without exposing it to temperatures extreme or humidity. The horse area must be clean and dry before applying the tape or it will not stick. o Horse must be clean, dry. o Microfiber towel, alcohol 70% o Certain areas have more sweat glands in certain areas. Girth area In front of the neck Flank Inside of leg
