p {margin: 0; padding: 0;} Intiractions with Other Organisms and the Environment Microbial ecology is the study of microorgoning and their interactions with each other, other organisms, and the environment. Microorgansms ploy a vital tolem many ecdogical processes such as nutrient cycling energy transfer. and biodigration. This lecture will Focus on the interactions between microorganisms and other other organisms as well as their role in the environment. One of the most important intractions bitween microorgansuns and other organsons is symbiosis. symbiosis refers to a close and long term relationship between toud different species. In mutualistic symbiosis, both species behifit from the Interaction An exampl of mutualistic symbiosis is the relationship between leguminour plants and nitrogen fixing bacteria. The bacteria live in the roots of the plants and provide it with fixed nitrogen while the plant provider the bacteria with nutrients. Another type of symbiosis is commensalism, whore one species benefits from the interactions while the other speaes is unaffected. CS Dinindei
