ROSHAAN AMEERDISCUSSIONPUBLIC SPEAKING Personal Appearance Many studies have confirmed that personal appearance plays an importantrole in speechmaking. Listeners always see you before they hear you. Justas you adapt your language to the audience and the occasion, so shouldyou dress and groom appropriately (Chapter 13 pg. 240). After reading chapter 13, this paragraph helped me select my attire for thevideo. I had originally not given much thought to my outfit, but afterreading the chapter, it became evident that I wear the proper attire for myrecording. The passage notes that the audience will see you before theyhear you thus, I should dress the part. This advice is useful for day-to-day life because you always want to ensureto dress for the occasion. For example, if you are going to a job interview, you wouldn’t want to wear sports attire; you should dress to impress. Youwant to make sure that your outfit compliments the event you areattending.
